Updated 23rd October 1996
StrongArm is the next generation ARM microprocessor. An upgrade for Acorn Risc-PC computers is to be released in September 1996. StrongArm delivers very high-end performance to a wide variety of applications.
TableMate 3.20a has tested perfectly on the StrongArm processor. Redisplay of large tables after a change in scaled view is hugely enhanced. Redraw speeds in all circumstances are substantially improved.
NOTE: TableMate 3.10a, and 3.10a alone, does not work with StrongArm - this is in fact linked to a problem with RISC-OS 3.6/3.7. Symptoms are a crash (Fatal Error - Type=5) when TableMate is run. See our hints page for further details of this problem.
DiagramIt 1.10f was tested on the StrongArm without any problems. Speed increase on complex line recalculations are simply stunning. In some circumstances, line creation is up to 10 times faster!
GraphMate was tested without any StrongArm incompatibilites. An overall improvement of performance is noticeable, especially on complex redraws (eg. for backdrops).
Works perfectly on StrongARM.
The above have now been tested on a release StrongARM system. Just as with our tests at ART on 23rd August, no problems have been discovered.
StrongArm brings significant speed improvement to all applications. Due to re-engineering of the Draw module, combined with the raw power of the StrongArm chip, redraws are impressively slick and smooth.
Processor-intensive work, such as massive re-scalings in TableMate and many line recalculations in DiagramIt, takes full advantage of the efficency and speed of StrongArm.
Dalriada would encourage all Risc-PC users to acquire a StrongArm upgrade to take the fullest advantage of the power of their Acorn RISC-OS system, and of their applications.
Existing Dalriada users can upgrade to StrongArm with confidence.

For further information on StrongArm compatibility with other software, and a fuller explanation of the advantages StrongArm can bring, you can go to the ART News page.
Many thanks to Dave Walker at ART for his co-operation and assistance in the testing of our products on StrongArm.
