News - Update 20th May 2000

A new release (1.50) will appear over the summer, supporting JavaScript (and other client-side scripting languages). As for previous releases, this update will be free to existing customers. A further release is planned for late 2000, including Cascading Style Sheet support (CSS2 - not CSS1 due to lack of browser support).

WebSpider 1.40 appeared in April 1998. New features included:

• Imagemap editing - now done inside WebSpider itself, and permitting full use of frames with imagemaps, and the new alternative description of links for non-graphical browsers.
• File reports - displays the files which have links to a file, and also lists unused "Orphans" on the site.
• CSV/TAB file import - automatically creating tables.
• Java applet support - now includes the ability to embed Java applets.
• Templates - speeding up the creation of new pages, and consistency.
• Tables - columns can now be specified in either percentage widths or in pixels.

Overview

WebSpider is our latest project, and provides the casual World Wide Web user with a quick and uncomplicated method of creating smart and attractive Web pages in minutes, with the added assurance that all conversion, validation and other difficulties are done for them.

WebSpider supports the most common HTML3.2, NetScape and Internet Explorer features, and the user can view their pages to check that they are useful and appealing in all circumstances. Also, WebSpider can automatically check that good practice is followed throughout the document (eg. aliases given for graphics).

WebSpider is being developed by Dalriada in association with a number of other leading players in the Acorn marketplace, to ensure that the maximum range of features will be brought to our users as soon as possible.
